Common Questions

Why do I need these x-rays?

X-rays and photographs are an important part of your treatment. Whether you are beginning treatment, finishing, or are a "work in progress," these records help your doctor visualize parts of your anatomy that can't be seen with the naked eye. The x-rays will show the bones of the jaw and face, the roots of the teeth, and many other hard and soft tissue structures of the head and neck. The photographs show soft tissue aspects that can't be visualized in the x-rays. Together, they provide part of what your doctor needs to properly diagnose and treat you. These records, combined with your personal health history, study models, and your doctor's expertise, help assure that you receive proper diagnosis and treatment.

What is a Cone-Beam Scan?

A Cone-Beam scan is basically a 3D x-ray which allows your doctor to see all of the hidden structures in your mouth and jaw. It is an incredible tool in helping to diagnose certain problems and can save you both time and money by correctly determining the course of treatment from the beginning.

Is this safe?

Although there is always some radiation exposure associated with x-rays, your doctor feels that the detailed diagnostic benefits will outweigh the minimal exposure. Dental x-rays involve very low doses of radiation, especially when using the best digital equipment available and properly trained staff. A fact sheet about radiation exposure is available upon request.

Can I accompany my child into the x-ray room?

Only those involved in the actual performance of the procedure are allowed in an x-ray room. While we prefer that parents wait in the reception area, we will allow you to stand just outside the x-ray rooms if necessary.

Will you bill my insurance?

Due to the variety of healthcare offerings available today, we do not bill insurance carriers - payment is due at the time of your visit. Payment can be made with cash, personal check, or credit card. If you would like an estimate of the cost prior to your visit, please call us. We're happy to help.
